Look for some shade!

I know, one of the most obvious tips in bass fishing, but that’s about all I can suggest after a few days fished earlier this week. I caught a lot of fish trying some different areas, but they were all on the smaller side. It wasn’t until I went to the deeper docks and started pitching to shady spots that I caught a few better ones – including a 10+ lb channel cat that gave me one hell of a fight and broke one of my favorite rods. He might have been set free if he would have just come in gracefully, but instead, I will have to pay my respects to Mr. Dobyns over a fried catfish dinner! Daytime temps are still in the low 90s during the day, but we are getting a few cooler nights which has water temps fluctuating between the mid 70’s in the mornings and low 80’s by the afternoon. There were also very light winds on the days I fished which made them a little spooky. The bite is pretty good in the morning so get out early if you can and then I would look for some shad with wind or shade. The best baits for me seemed to be flukes, small plastics, and a spinnerbait. Good Luck!
